I teach the ‘acquisition of attention’ at all levels up to post graduate.
I achieve this through drawing, from basic levels for children, progressing to advanced levels of fine art drawing and painting at pre-university, graduate and postgraduate levels.
I do not teach art. I teach how to acquire attention.
I use art only as a means for the student to learn other subjects and apply this directly to the subject the student needs to learn. The basis is to draw what you need to learn.
For young students with learning difficulties- by creating a picture or making a form [which is enjoyable and fun for the student] - maths becomes a three dimensional game or a picture with numbered forms and colours created by the student.
Many subjects can be taught through drawing, there are certain subjects that are not possible such as music and foreign languages.
For more advanced students the process involves thinking feeling and sensation, analysis through drawing is a small part of it.
I am dyslexic and could not read until I was fourteen. In order to understand I had to be able to analyse everything around me drawing allowed me to do this.
I qualified from St. Martins School of Art, BA. Hons and distinction for my thesis on The Acquisition of Language. I am an artist by vocation,by profession I was a director for three media companies and a publishing company in London.
I set up drawing classes at my studio in London for children, pre-university undergraduates, post graduates and professional students. Ten students per class for a one year course.
I also taught individual students with learning difficulties.
At the time art schools were not teaching drawing and many of these students required drawing skills for their entrance to art school, architectural school, university or in their professional career.
I have an understanding of some of the difficulties children and young adults face if they have learning problems and an apparent problem with attention.
